Business leaders should continue learning, innovating or coaching to deepen their influence.
We are stepping into the hyper-connected and interdependent era of people-centricity. The contemporary leaders or professionals strike a balance between taking people outside of their comfort zones whilst building confidence that the change is desirable and achievable.
Unique perspective: Organizational ecosystem is complex, contemporary leadership is situational. Cookie cutter leadership needs to be updated toward gap-minding, creative leadership. Great leaders are open-minded, keep their energy flowing freely and be mindful all the time; share unique perspectives on complex issues that need to be dealt with, build their unique set of leadership strength and competencies. They are good at connecting unusual dots, appreciate others’ viewpoints as well, avoid the trap of unconscious biases, bridge perception gaps, and apply interdisciplinary knowledge to define the right problems in order to solve them effectively.
Sound judgment: Judgmental Intelligence is the combination of multiple intelligence such as critical thinking, emotional intelligence, learning agility, discernment. Wisdom has to do with the soundness of judgment. Good judgment is a must for good decisions. Misperceptions of people or things based on your own level of cognition, knowledge, cultural understanding, experience are sometimes completely different from the objective reality. To make sound judgment, thinking fast (Intuition) and thinking slow (analytics) need to go together; transparency and trust should go together, process and flexibility need to be considered to improve decision effectiveness.
Cross-disciplinary collaboration: Forward leaders encourage self-discovery, autonomy. Knowledge workers today are more purpose-driven and self-motivated. The crucial issue for many organizations is that they don’t have an integrated approach to manage people, knowledge, and process holistically. Thus, they haven’t reached the next level of the collective learning stage to enforce the growth cycle of the business. Business leaders need to convey the vision of running an organic digital business, harness cross-disciplinary communication & collaboration, facilitate continuous digital dialogues, keep investing, nurturing, and growing their people, and optimize workforce to meet the needs of business growth.
Business leaders should continue learning, innovating or coaching to deepen their influence. They must be very open to knowledge, desire for insight, and hunt for wisdom. They are humble enough to be aware of and admit what they don’t know and share what they know. The advances of leadership mindset and maturity of the leadership disciplines directly impact on how further the change can go forward and how deep change effort can permeate across the organization ecosystem. The effectiveness of digital leadership is significantly based on the leaders’ multidimensional intelligence and multifaceted influence.
